Launched on 11 February 2017, the centenary of Jock Kinneir’s birth, the Jock Kinneir Library is an online academic and creative resource dedicated to the life, work and teaching of one of the UK’s most important graphic designers and typographers. In partnership with Margaret Calvert, Kinneir created the signage system that has defined Britain’s roads for over 50 years, and as a teacher of Graphic Art, influenced a generation of designers with his user-centred design philosophy. His work and legacy are celebrated in books and museums around the world, but until the launch of the Library, there has been no widely accessible digital repository of his designs, teaching materials, correspondence or other ephemera from his creative life. The Library has been set up by Jock’s grandchildren, Simon and Anna Kinneir, who have both followed him into the design world.
