13 American pioneers present the best of the US at London Design Fair
In 2016, the 10th year of London Design Fair, the Guest Country Pavilion was introduced to expand the fair’s – already broad – international scope. The inaugural show, This is India, brought fresh ideas and new inspirations to the LDF audience, and gave Indian designers and makers access to a new European market.
Now, London Design Fair plans to build on this success with this year’s show. Occupying the Guest Country Pavilion space, Assembly looks across the Atlantic at a resurgent US design scene, celebrates the quality, variety and vision behind the products the US is bringing to the international market, and explores the growing value and influence of independent makers across the States.
Assembly gathers together 13 of the most exciting contemporary independent designers and studios connected with the US, offering fair visitors the chance to obtain exclusive access to a broad array of products and designers that they might not otherwise encounter at London Design Festival, and giving them a glimpse of the concepts, materials and thinking currently shaping the upper echelons of American design.
Jill Singer and Monica Khemsurov – founders of online design and visual arts magazine Sight Unseen – have been selected to curate the exhibition. Since its launch eight years ago, Sight Unseen has sought and celebrated emerging design brands in and outside the States – both through the magazine and its roving design fair Sight Unseen OFFSITE.
