Swedish Design Moves Southern Sweden Creatives Butler/Lindgård
Hanna Butler and Karin Olu Lindgård, co-founders of Malmö-based Butler/Lindgård, approach textile design a little differently: “We have a strong point of view and we want our work to communicate that.” While aesthetic is important, it is not the driving force.
Working in a female-dominated textile environment, it is important for Karin and Hanna that their work explores issues facing women. This film takes a look at the studio’s latest collection. Skin is inspired by Hanna and Karin’s observation that woman past the age of 55 seem to all but disappear from society. The collection highlights the beauty in our skin’s imperfections: wrinkles, freckles and bruises.
This film is one in a series of six commissioned by Swedish Design Moves. The project saw Zetteler Films travel to Malmö to document some of the people and practices exhibiting as part of the Swedish Design Pavilion at the 2017 London Design Fair. Filmed in the designers’ everyday surrounds, each film captures the raw human emotions, beliefs and inspiration driving each practice. You can watch the trailer for the series here.
