Valuable, powerful, deserving

If you saw our post from this very day last year, you will have already worked out that we see International Women’s Day as another unmissable opportunity to champion the incredible, powerful and valuable work of women around the world. Women everywhere are doing unbelievable things every single day, this is in no way a finite list, but here are some of our favourites from the people we are lucky enough to know and work with. Tell us who and what you’re feeling inspired by today over on Twitter
Frith Kerr
We can’t not shout out the incredible Frith Kerr, who founded Studio Frith ten years ago and who we are proud to begin working with very soon. Described by the New York Times as “the go-to graphic designer for creative clients”, her studio has produced acclaimed work for some of the world’s leading cultural institutions, brands and artists including Frieze Art Fairs, Guggenheim New York, Ilse Crawford, Roksanda, Philippe Parreno, Michael Clark and Company, Hotel Il Pellicano, Skye Gyngell and Spring. | studiofrith.com

Nelly Ben Hayoun
Design Indaba was packed full of incredible people and projects this year, including the one and only Nelly Ben Hayoun, a long time friend of Sabine and Zetteler. She just launched the University of the Underground, the world’s first postgraduate university based within a hidden network of urban spaces that aims to change the world one Willy Wonka at a time. | Read all about it right here.

Runa Klock
Runa Klock epitomises so much of what we love about about Norwegian design and combines it with an essential understanding of what it means to be a global community and how design might save us all. Aside from being a brilliant product designer, Runa runs Bokhari, a unique organisation that started as a factory and school owned by the late Yawar Hussain Bokhari. | Read more about Bokhari here, learn more about Runa’s design work here and see her work at Everything is Connected in Milan this April.

Emily Mathieson
Emily is a former travel editor for The Guardian, Condé Nast Traveller and Red, but a passion for beautiful, useful, locally made homewares led her to question the lack of high-quality options in the ethical interiors sector. She founded Aerende as part of her quest to create a model for considerate, socially valuable shopping that doesn’t compromise on quality or style. | Get to know Aerende here.

Danielle Pender
We all owe a huge shout out to Danielle Pender, founder and editor of Riposte — the “smart magazine for women”. Riposte champions women and everything they do. Its honest approach to profiling and discussing women doesn’t shy away from anything and gives us a platform to talk about failure and finding success, candidly. | ripostemagazine.com

Paola Antonelli
Organised and hosted by Riposte, last week team Zetteler attended a talk on curation by senior curator of the department of architecture and design at New York's Museum of Modern Art, Paola Antonelli. The Italian author, editor and curator is a powerful but entirely approachable force to be reckoned with and has maintained a fearless and open-minded approach to art and design for the duration of her long career. | Read Riposte’s interview with her here.

Nadine Chahine
We spend a lot of time swooning over the pioneering work of Nadine Chahine. She is type director at Monotype and a real heroine of her industry. She recently delivered a daring talk on nudity in type at the St Bride Foundation. Nadine was one of the stars of the Johnston100 film we made as Zetteler Films last year. | Follow Nadine on Twitter to see what else she’s up to.

Camille Walala
Camille is one of the design industry’s biggest personalities and another inspiring Zetteler client. About five months ago she embarked on her dream trip to Kenya to work with the Maasai Tribe and collaborate on jewellery designs with The Good, an organisation that uses creative  collaboration to improve the financial independence of Maasai women. | Check out The Good on Facebook and head to Camille’s Instagram feed to see what she got up to.

The women behind the creative world
We’re loving seeing media outlets around the world supporting women today (hopefully something they think about every day). We particularly love It’s Nice That’s series of International Women’s Day features highlighting the unbelievable women behind the creative world, including a great piece on crossing the gender divide by Ma-tt-er founder Seetal Solanki. | See all the features here.

What’s next for the women’s movement?
Following the success of the Women’s March earlier this year, 15 influential women from around the world have nominated crucial next steps towards change. | Read them on The Guardian here.
