Under the moniker the Fandangoe Kid, Annie Nicholson’s multidisciplinary art projects boldly intervene in public space to create conversations around heavy topics with a welcome dose of joy and humour.
For Nicholson, the transformative power of art is personal. Since experiencing the sudden loss of several members of her family she has focused her grief into a public-orientated mission. With a dozen or so permanent installations in the UK and abroad, and countless public events under her belt (including her UK-touring ice-cream van/discussion platform Fandangoe Whip in 2021), Nicholson has collaborated with the likes of Arts Council England and the Design Museum, and has had her works covered by Channel 4, BBC, and Creative Review. She also hosts The Grief Mixtape on Soho Radio and her book, Tender Hearted Bold Moves, was published by Rough Trade Books in 2020.
Energetic and fiercely committed to accessibility, Annie is a one-of-a-kind artist. In a world beset by multiple crises, her relentlessly optimistic artworks capture the sense that change is not only possible but necessary. We want the world to know about her projects and are always willing to back someone who works so bravely in the public space.
