An artist and activist with an extraordinary creative vision, Bisila Noha is a Spanish-born, London-based creative whose practice puts her exceptional craft talent in the service of positive change. Her practice as a ceramic artist challenges Western views on art and craft, interrogates conceptions of value in capitalist society, and reflects upon our understanding of home and belonging. Encompassing wheel-thrown ceramics with marbled slip decoration depicting abstract landscapes, as well as sculptural pieces exploring her relationships with the past, Bisila’s work has been exhibited widely, including at London and Edinburgh’s Art Fairs in 2019, Bordeaux’s OFF – Focus Céramiques d'art' in 2021, and at numerous group exhibitions at Thrown Contemporary, which represents her. In 2022, Bisila’s vessels could be seen at Collect, Harewood Biennial, and Body Vessel Clay at Two Temple Place, London.
Alongside her creative practice, Bisila is a driven activist and advocate, serving as co-director for Lon-art Creative, a collaborative platform for the exploration of social issues through arts, as well as taking leading roles with diversity-in-design campaign Design Can and London’s newly opened pop-up LGBTQ+ community centre; and serving as a trustee for brain-injury support charity Headway East London.
Bisila is a rare and wonderful combination of talent, vision and purpose – we’re thrilled to work alongside such a brilliant and inspiring human for Design Can, and equally happy to support her practice as a ceramic artist in every way we can.
