Launched in 2019, Fjord Oslo is a free public festival devoted to the collective experience of art. For three days, the event transforms the Norwegian capital’s cultural quarter into a large-scale outdoor exhibition featuring some of the world’s most renowned artists working with the medium of light. Ranging from projections and interactive sculptures to immersive audiovisual installations, Fjord Oslo celebrates and explores the possibilities that exist at the crossover of technology and creativity. The first edition took place on Oslo’s Harbour Promenade on 1–3 November 2019, exploring our relationship with nature and the environment. The second, on 6–8 November 2020, presents 10 diverse installations exploring theme of the Anthropocene, each reflecting or questioning the relationship between humanity and nature in some way. Featuring contributions from an international coterie of artists, Fjord Oslo aims to become Scandinavia’s most visually spectacular and conceptually wide-ranging showcase of light-based art.
Enthused by Fjord Oslo’s founders Anastasia and Frank Isachsen and their mission to make contemporary visual art accessible to the widest possible public, Zetteler joined the festival team in the run-up to the city-transforming initiative, helping spread awareness of this exciting and original new event on the global creative calendar. After the success of the inaugural edition, we jumped at the chance to get back on board for Fjord Oslo #2 in 2020.
