Having begun its life as a magazine about King’s Cross, Kiosk N1C is now a physical part of the neighbourhood fabric. Founded and edited by creative polymath James Bowthorpe, it was set up with the aim of uncovering and exploring the people behind the area’s creative renaissance – the unofficial guidebook to the cultural regeneration of King’s Cross that culminated in the opening of Coal Drops Yard. Today, Kiosk N1C is one of the key forces shaping the area it first set out to chronicle. In 2018 the magazine was commissioned to curate Lower Stable Street – a lowered thoroughfare running between Coal Drops Yard and Central Saint Martins. More than just a shopping street, Lower Stable Street is conceived to be the area’s design/cultural hub, populated by retail brands and design-driven enterprises and hosting a year-round calendar of events – including exhibitions, installations and markets. And at the heart of Lower Stable Street is Kiosk N1C – the magazine, design store and event space that created it.
After working with the Coal Drops Yard team to promote their programme for London Craft Week 2019 (when the Kiosk N1C space played host to Buaisou’s indigo-dyeing workshop), we were invited to support Kiosk N1C in the run-up to Lower Stable Street’s Christmas programme, helping spread the word about this new and original landmark addition to London’s festive calendar.
