The conversation around circular design in timber tends to focus on the material, but often neglects to consider how it is treated – and what with. A wood-finish brand specialising on British-grown regenerative hemp seed oil, LOXKIN is founded on the idea that how we treat our materials shapes the environments we live in. Founded by sustainable agriculture and hemp specialist Nathaniel Loxley and woodworker Jamie Zenner Downs-Atkins, LOXKIN seeks to widen understanding of the impact that ancillary material choices such as wood finishes can have on the durability and repairability of wood, on the quality of the air around it, and on whether and how long it can remain in circulation. LOXKIN provides a natural alternative to the conventional petrochemical finishes which can often make repair, refinishing and material recovery more difficult. Made from British-grown hemp oil, their range of low-VOC wood finishes, polishes and soaps are blended to protect and nourish wood, allow it to age naturally, and ensure it can be reused again and again. If you start with wood, finish with LOXKIN. Structured as a social enterprise, the brand reinvests 50% of profits into supporting small-scale farms as they develop into educational community hubs focused on sustainable agriculture.
Having worked with Nathaniel on a panel event at Groundswell 2025, Zetteler is proud to work with LOXKIN not only as they develop their brand and product offering, but also to ensure their message of full-picture circular thinking, health-led material care and regenerative agriculture gets heard, and has a meaningful impact on material and design thinking.
