One of the last and largest settlements to be born from the New Towns Act, Milton Keynes was officially made a city in 2022, 55 years after it was first designated. MK today is one of the UK’s great centres of enterprise and innovation, with the country’s fourth highest rate of business start-ups per capita, as well as one of the nation’s greenest cities, with 6,000 acres of parkland, rivers, lakes and woodland. One of the largest employers in the region, Milton Keynes City Council is a unitary authority with responsibilities for all local-government services in MK, including education, housing, highways and social services.
Inspired by the city, and Ilori’s roots, incorporating Nigerian textile patterns, ‘Walk With Your Dreams’ is a celebration of Milton Keynes’ diverse population and a tribute to the city’s visionary origins, dynamic present and ambitious future.
On 2 October 2025, Milton Keynes revealed a dramatic transformation to Station Square – the gateway to the city and one of the largest public-realm spaces in the UK.
