Music in the Ville
A passionate believer that everyone should have access to live music, opera singer Emma Dogliani ran community music events for years until one day, while rehearsing near HMP Pentonville, a men’s prison and young offender institution in North London, she was curious about what life was like behind its forbidding walls. What happened next was an ambitious new project – Music in the Ville.
Beginning as a pilot scheme in 2017, this flagship project delivers weekly sessions year-round, reflecting the diverse backgrounds of the men at HMP Pentonville by working across piano, violin, spoken-word poetry, rap, opera and beyond.
