OpenAREA is a new chapter in creative director Ollie Olanipekun’s ongoing mission to shift our relationship with the outdoors. Following in the footsteps of his trailblazing birdwatching club Flock Together, OpenAREA seeks to widen access to nature by reframing our relationship with it. By looking at nature not as the opposite of culture, but as one of the raw materials we can use to shape it, OpenAREA hopes to inspire young people in urban areas to actively engage with the reserves and green spaces that surround them – not as a backdrop to experience passively, but as a dynamic space for storytelling, community connection and creative expression.
Beginning in autumn 2025 with a six-day event at Camley Street Natural Park in King’s Cross – encompassing music, art, food and all forms of creative expression – Ollie Olanipekun is positioning OpenAREA at the forefront of an international movement to champion our natural environment, not as something to be be preserved and admired from a distance, but as something to be actively shaped and celebrated by all.
WHAT WE DO FOR OpenAREA
We’re huge fans and followers of Flock Together, so when Ollie revealed he was launching a new initiative to widen social access to the outdoors, we were on board even before he dropped the details. We’re working with him to launch OpenAREA and evolve a radical new way of interacting with nature.
